Night and Day follows an A
A B form, which can also be broken down into an A B A B C B form, with the B
section being the second half of each of the larger sections in the A A B
format. In the reharm, as in the original, this sub-section remains the same
throughout. I will use the A A B rehearsal letter format, using double bar lines
to delineate the sub-section. I use
the standard key of C major for the melody of this reharm.
Two major changes occur
in the melody. In the B section, in bars two and six, the G natural in the G, F,
Eb passage is changed to a Gb. The sub-section of the B section uses the same
melody as the A sections, instead of the variation that occurs in the original
chart.
The first half of the A
sections use the tritonic grouping of C, Ab and E, and the first half of the B
section uses the Eb, B, G grouping. The sub-sections use the A, F, Db groupings.
There are a few extended turnarounds for modulation purposes, and a
major-seven-sharp-five chord before the bridge. Here are my
changes:
